Thai Nguyen has been famous in Vietnam for its high quality tea for years. One of the main exports in the 1990s, Thai Nguyen tea helped Vietnam both in gaining GDP growth and raising reputation in the world commodity market. From 2004 with the exported amount of 100,000 tons (mainly from Thai Nguyen), Vietnam has written its name to the top 5 tea exporting countries in the world (after Kenya, Sri Lanka, China and India).
With the crystal green colour, sweet taste and unique smell, Thai Nguyen tea scores very high in the international market. In November 2011, Thai Nguyen for the first time has the honour to hold International Tea Festival. This Festival is a chance for Vietnam to know about teas from many other countries, to exchange experience about growing, harvesting and packaging tea, and to advertise Vietnam tea, especially Thai Nguyen tea to tourists and guests from all over the world.

Main activities of this festival include an International Conference about Tea, an Exhibition: Vietnam – country and people, a Beauty contest in tea hill, and a cultural festival about tea.
