From September 24th to 26th, Kate Festival 2011 of Cham people will take place in Po Sah Inu tower and Cham villages in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province.
Kate which is celebrated annually on July 1st according to Cham calendar is the integral festival to the Cham ethnic people like Tet holiday to the Kinh people. It is an occasion for Cham people to show their respect and tribute to the Deity and ancestors.
As traditional, the festival will feature a procession of palanquin and costumes of Po Sah Inu Goddess, a ceremony to open the tower’s gate, giving way to Linga and Yoni ceremony. Besides, folk music performances, contests of brocade weaving, cake making, and folk games are likely to be the most exciting parts of the event.
The festival will be hosted by Cham people in Ham Thuan Bac district; however, many folk music performances will be presented with the help of Cham artists from neighboring districts like Ham Phu, Ham Tri or Ma Lam town.
