Hanoi Medical University (HMU) is the oldest remaining university in Hanoi with 109 year history and also the best university in medic in the North of Vietnam. Former base of this university was Indochina Medical University (Ecole de Médecine de I’Indochine) established by French in 1902 and operated by famous doctor Alexandre Yersin. In the past, HMU was locate on Le Thanh Tong Street, but then moved to Ton That Tung Street, the road with name of the most talented doctor in the history of Vietnam’s medic.
The university's main mission is to train and provide skillful doctors and medics in numerous areas from traditional medicines to nursing, as well as research and implement new technology on medicine to domestic hospitals. Besides, HMU also acts as a medical services provider with the creation of its own hospital in 2007.
