Famed Vietnamese contemporary artist Dao Anh Khanh will hold a special show as a celebration of “1000 Year Flow” at his 5,000m2 studio in Gia Lam, Hanoi at 7.30 PM, 21 October 2011. The show is organized by the artist himself without any external funding.
The night consists of outstanding contemporary music performances presented by well-known modern artists in Vietnam like Xuan Son, Vu Nhat Tan or Nguyen Van Thao. In addition, the show is also a cultural exchange event between Vietnam and America; hence there is the appearance of some talented artists from New York, including bass player Brett Zweiman, Marc Gaetanni and Michael Stewart.
The show starts with the performances of the American artists using instruments like bass, organ and drum, in addition to their amazing play on Vietnamese unique instrument “Đàn Bầu” (one string zither) in their incredibly spontaneous styles.
Following are Vietnamese artists’ turns with a little jazzy rhythm of composer Tri Minh, a little noisy tune of composer Vu Nhat Tan, and especially impressive singing of host Dao Anh Khanh with crazily extraordinary performances. The last 15 minutes of the event is dedicated to guests, who can choose any musical instruments available and play along with the band.
Dao Anh Khanh is not a strange name in contemporary art in Vietnam with his self-named title “Master of The Mental”. Formerly, he was a policeman; however, after a serious injury in mission, he suddenly shifted to arts and became a contemporary artist.
