In 2004, Dien Bien Province started their plan to boost the local tourism of 8 cultural hamlets along the province, including NoongBua, Co My, Ten, U Va, PeLuong,PhiengLoi, Him Lam 2 (Dien Bien Phu Town) and Men (Dien Bien District). All these hamlets apply a similar format of service with a professional team of 15-20 tour guides, food servers, artists and security in each hamlet.
Foreign tourists at a Northern mountainous ethnic minority tribe
Visiting these ethnic minorities’ tribes, tourists have chances to participate in unique activities of the local daily life such as farming, knitting or weaving, tasting specialties of the mountainous area like grilled fish, grilled pork rolled with herbal leaf, and bamboo shoots and enjoying traditional melodies of the local artists.
The People Committee of Dien Bien is planning a project to 2015, which aims at increasing the number of visitors to these cultural hamlets by 10-15% annually, welcoming 55,000 visitors by 2015, in which 12,000 foreign tourists are expected.
