Halong Bay listed among nominees for Asia's leading tourist attraction
Twice recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Halong Bay has recently been nominated for Asia's leading tourist attraction at the 2021 World Travel Awards.
The nomination list includes a total of 12 tourist destinations in the region. Some of the other famous sites are Angkor Wat (Cambodia), Great Wall (China), Taj Mahal (India), Borobudur Temple Compounds (Indonesia), Tokyo Imperial Palace (Japan), or Intramuros (Philippines).
Around 2 hours from Hanoi capital, Halong Bay attaches to a legend of descending dragons and includes nearly 2,000 limestone islands and islets. The heritage site stands out with the emerald water of the calm bay, the unique formation of karst mountains covered by dense forests, and a diverse ecosystem.
Thanks to Halong Bay, Quang Ninh welcomed 14 million tourists of which 5.7 million are foreigners in 2019, a 14% increase compared with the previous year. This destination also won Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction category in 2019.

Travelers, professionals, and media all over the world are invited to join the vote. Each voter needs to register for an account on the World Travel Awards website and votes online until September 1 this year.
The winner will be revealed in the awards ceremony for Asia in Dubai on October 6, 2021.
