International visitor number to Vietnam saw big increase in 2012
According to a recent announcement of the Vietnam’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, the total number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in 2012 increased significantly.
According to a recent announcement of the Vietnam’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, the total number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in 2012 increased significantly.
Although it saw a decline of 6.26% in the number of visitors in December 2012 over the previous months of the year, the overall number increased by 13.86% over that of 2011, reaching 6,847,678 visitors.
Contributing one third of that great number is the capital city Hanoi, which attracted 2.1 million foreign visitors in 2012 (increased by 11.3% over the previous year). Amongst this 2.1 million, 208,000 visitors come from China (increased by 27%); 152,500 are Japanese; 130,500 are Australian and 81,000 from the Republic of Korea.
This is considered a positive signal when Vietnam’s tourism has successfully went through a harsh year of financial crisis in 2012. It is forecasted an even more successful year in 2013 for the tourism industry of the country with many huge planned activities to come.
