Music nights at L’Espace to commemorate Trinh Cong Son

The show, in a twist from the conventional Trinh-style, is performed by three young artists Giang Trang (vocal), Anh Tú (violinist), and Anh Hoàng (guitar). Giang Trang has performed earlier in the music night marking 100 days of the composer’s death in 2001. It is a move aimed at bringing the “bright color” of the youth into Trinh’s emotional and thoughtful songs, which are often dearly hearted by ones who have been through a lot of emotional ups and downs. 

 

 

Three artists perform in Lênh đênh nhớ phố

 

Trinh Cong Son (1939 – 2001) is author of over 400 songs is one of the most acclaimed and renowned Vietnamese musician.  His tunes, usually filled with strangely unique melody and sophisticated lyrics, bring him fame not only in Vietnam, but also in many other countries. They give way to an entire new genre of Vietnamese music – one known as “Trịnh”, which is named after the composer. It is not difficult to find coffee houses dedicated to Trịnh music in major cities of Vietnam like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which are often packed, especially on live music nights.
