Statistic published by Vietnam National Administration of Tourism reports around 3 million foreigners have visited Vietnam in the first 5 months of 2012. This figure increases by 17.5% over the same period last year.
Among these 3 million ones, more than a half came to Vietnam for tourism purposes, while the other visited the country with different objectives such as business, visiting acquaintances or seeking for jobs. A major number of visitors came from countries Korea, Russia, Thailand and Malaysia.
While the whole picture is going up, the number of visitor in May sees a decrease, by 25.8% compared to April, as well as 4.4% to May 2011.
The rising number of foreigners to Vietnam, particularly in tourism is supposed to be the result of new recognition of global tourists to Vietnam, such as Ha Long Bay with title of “New 7 Wonder”, as well as effort of local administration on promoting the image of Vietnam tourism to the world via various festivals and events in the first 5 months such as Hue Festival or Danang International Firework Competition.
