Ly Quoc Su Street
Located in Hoan Kiem District, Ly Quoc Su Street has one end at the intersection of Hang Bong and Hang Manh Streets and the othe end heading south to Nha Tho Street.
Ly Quoc Su Street has always been one of the most bustling and exciting streets in the heart of Hanoi. In the past, the street was once a part of Tien Thi village, Tho Xuong district and was called Rue Lamblo by the French during colonial time.
Along its length of 250 metres, Ly Quoc Su street features both old and new things in such an interesting harmony. In a historical sense, “Ly Quoc Su” means “ The national doctor of Ly Dynasty”, which was given to Nguyen Minh Khong from Diem Xa village (Ninh Binh province), who succeeded with curing King Ly Than Tong of a disease that challenged many famous doctors. Thanks to his amazing talent, he was referred as “ Ly Quoc Su” and given a serene realm near Bao Thien Pagoda, which is now known as Ly Quoc Su Pagoda on the street.
Today, Ly Quoc Su street has seen many changes with many clothes shops, eateries as well as souvenir stores. The street is also proud to be a favorite destination for local and foreign foodies with many famous treats: chao trai (oyster porridge), banh trang tron (mixed rice paper), banh goi (pillow cakes).With its historical values and cultural quintessence, Ly Quoc Su street is an impressive part among Hanoi’s streets and a must-visit spot for foreign visitors.
