Nha Tho - Church Street
Located nearby Hoan Kiem Lake, Nha Tho ( Street with the cathedral) is well known as a lovely and poetical street of the capital.
The small street is just a few hundred meters long and seemingly always contains many fascinating and unique thing for a great relaxing time. Coming here, you may come across the contrast between two style of architecture from East and West, two forms of old and new cultures, and even between two religious ideologies of Buddhism and Christianity.
It is a very strange attraction that creates a huge curiosity for everyone to take a chance setting foot on this small area. At the beginning of the street, there is a sacred pagoda named Ba Da, which was built in the reign of King Le Thanh Tong (1490-1497) on the old foundation of famous Bao Thien Tower of the ancient capital Thang Long. This temple is also the headquarter of Hanoi Buddist Association.
Meanwhile, at the end of the street, on the area of a small square stands St. Joseph's Cathedral, a typical Gothic architecture work with artistic imprints of medieval period expressed in wide curved arches rising up to the blue sky, creating a magnificent highlight for the overall space of the street.
Nha Tho street also has shop next to shop with many handicrafts and fashion stuffs made from high-quality and smooth silk of Vietnam. Parting Hanoi, tourists can forget everything due to the chaos of work and life, but the image of this small, lovely and unique street will probably never fade in their minds.
