Phung Hung
Phung Hung street is 1.244m long, starting from Phan Dinh Phung street to Hang Bong street, belonging to three wards: Hang Ma, Cua Dong, Hang Bong of Hoan Kiem district.
The street was once a trench running along the eastern wall of Thang Long Citadel in Nguyen Dynasty time. In the French colonial time, the street had the named Henri d'Orleans Boulevard. After 1945, the city’s authority renamed it to Phung Hung street. The long street runs parallel to the railway viaduct. Near the end of the street, there are only a few old French-style house leaning on the wall of the old trench.
Classic touches still remains intact with tile roofs covered with green moss, the big square chimneys, or the little attic doorway looking like dovecotes.As a street lying on the central market area, many traders quickly feel the strong comsumption force and set up their headquarters here.
On the middle chunk of the street, there are shops selling plastic items such as glasses, cups, clothes hangers, brooms, buckets. They may be made in Vietnam or imported from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea . At the end of the street, there are many shops selling household electrical appliances of all sorts.
At night, the street corner becomes sparkling like a starry night. The cuisine scene here shows a diversity with beef noodle, crab noodle and many other treats. Especially, Phung Hung street starts turning to “a paradise of hot pot” every evening.
