Bus Stations in Hanoi
Hanoi is well-connected with other provinces throughout the country.
There is a wide range of choices when it comes to transportation if one departs from the capital city: plane, train, and bus. You can even hire a motorbike if you are confident enough of your riding skill. However, if you have already been tired of waiting for check-in at the airport or train station and wanted to save a few bucks, bus can prove to be a smart alternative.
One of the most exciting ways to get acquainted and understand more about the locals’ life is to join them in their ride between provinces. If you want professional services and precise schedule, pay an extra amount of money to book ticket for an open tour at your travel agent. However, if you do not mind keeping an eye on your belonging full time, sitting among strangers who hardly understand what you are talking about, just head for the terminals!
There are six main bus terminals in Hanoi which located at essential gateways of the city:
Giap Bat Terminal (Ben xe Giap Bat)
This bus terminal mainly focuses on south-bound routes to provinces such as Danang, Buon Ma Thuot or Ho Chi Minh City. However, from here you can still have bus going to other provinces in Northern Vietnam like Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa.

My Dinh Terminal (Ben xe My Đinh)
My Dinh is one of the largest terminals in Hanoi. With ideal location on Ring Road No 3, My Dinh station serves bus route to both North-bound and South-bound destination.

Gia Lam Terminal (Ben xe Gia Lam)
This bus terminal mainly focuses on the routes to Northern provinces like Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Hoa Binh, Ninh Binh.

Ha Dong (Yen Nghia) Terminal
This is the newest terminal in Hanoi, opened since 2009. You can take bus going to Hoa Binh, Son La, Thai Nguyen from here.

Getting Around Hanoi - Car, Bus, Bike
Most sights and accommodations are in Hoan Kiem District (downtown), centered around the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake, and Ba Dinh, Dong Da or Hai Ba Trung districts. Most addresses include a district name. You'll want to plan your travels accordingly because getting from one district to another can be time-consuming. Within the downtown, you can easily walk from a spot to another.
