Hon Ba Isle
A mysterious temple revealed at low tide
Hon Ba is a small island on Vung Tau coast. At low-tide on the 14th and 15th lunar day, rocks and coral are revealed for some hours, forming a secret causeway leading to the island. Tourists can then slowly get there on foot which makes quite an experience. On other days, tourists can hire a boat to get there.

A temple called "Mieu Ba" or “Mistress temple” was built on top in 1881. Its 6km long tunnel was used as a secret place for meetings of communists during wars. Nowadays, religious rituals take place here in lunar January, April, July and October, attracting many tourists who want to bring votive offerings and pray for luck, health and prosperity.

If tourists decide to walk at low-tide instead of hiring a boat, good shoes or sandals are useful as the causeway is slippery. Ask locals for the exact time of low-tide because good timing is the key to a successful excursion. Anyone in love with the solitude and serenity of a remote unspoilt island or fancy spiritual tourism would find Hon Ba irresistible.
